Maureen Duffy reflects on the fight for PLR in the UK

In 1979 the Public Lending Right Act was passed into law in the United Kingdom. This came after a long campaign by the Writers Action Group, led by author champions Maureen Duffy and Brigid Brophy.

Today we share a video of PLR campaigner Maureen Duffy interviewed by Jim Parker, former PLR Registrar. Maureen recounts her experiences campaigning for authors and the fight to help secure payment for library loans of their books. For many, the UK PLR Scheme is a gold standard and its payments have helped authors to keep writing over the past 40 years.
